My name is Thomas, but you can call me Tom. I am the new ESC Volunteer based in Reykjavík for the next 12 months.

I was born in Turin, Italy, to a Scottish father and an Italian mother and I grew up in a small village 20km north of the city. I went to school in Turin, apart from my exchange year in Budapest, Hungary in 2011/12 – that was where my journey with AFS began!
I started by helping local volunteers at charity events there, then I spent a number of years at my chapter of Torino Nord looking after applicant selection processes, events for exchange students, promotional projects and miscellaneous activities on a local and national scale.

I studied and worked in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Milan, Italy, where I also dedicated part of my time to AFS. Interestingly, while I was in the Netherlands, I got to know Anke, whom I happen to replace here – it’s a small world!

I am absolutely happy to be in Iceland and being able to commit to AFS on a full time basis is a dream come true! I am also delighted to immerse myself in the Icelandic culture, learn the language, and discover the country!
Looking forward to meeting all of you great people who, one way or another, make AFS á Íslandi one of the coolest environments!

Góðan dag!
Tom
